Body Parts & Coal Dust – Out Today

Those jolly nice folks at Ether Books have added another five of my stories to their app this week – some are free and some are paid downloads. If you haven’t had a chance to check out the Ether iphone app, hop over and give it a whirl– the app is free and there are lots of lovely free downloads available as well as paid content.

It’s been a memorable week for a wide variety of reasons, some good, some bad and some quite atrocious, so I took a huge boost from this screenshot, stupid I know and it probably will never happen again in my life time but I got a kick out of it anyway! Actually Sirius is doing quite well and is currently on the Ether best sellers list.

Anyway, just in time to stop my ego floating away on the strength of its own over-inflation, I had a couple of rejections this week. One of which was from a very nice group of editors who actually took the time to say what they liked and disliked about my submission as well as providing  useful insight into what I might do to fix it. It’s probably as nice a let-down as one could ever hope for and gave me a new way to look at one of my stories which I hadn’t previously considered.

I also lost my tenuous fingertip hold on the top of the Slingink Slam fiction leaderboard this week.  With one round’s results to come in and another round to submit, it’s all very tense going into the final stages.  I’m happy to say though, that so far four of the six stories from this competition have already been put under contract.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the launch of this year’s Best of the Whittaker Prize, Body Parts & Coal Dust, not least because that was the title of one of my round winners but also because it contains some fantastic fiction and poetry written by an extremely talented bunch of writers . I am pleased to say that the book is now out in print and available here.
